3 Healthy Alternatives to our Favourite Junk Foods

We all fall victim to those fast food cravings at some time or another and lets face it…sometimes we genuinely can hear that slice of pepperoni pizza screaming ‘eat me, eat me!’ But do we really need to give up the foods we love to eliminate the guilt and exceeding waist line? No. We’ve come up with 3 healthy alternatives to our favourite junk foods and if we do say ourselves…they may overtake the originals!

Chips. Deep fried. Golden. Saturated in fat. We love them on our taste buds but unfortunately our waistline doesn’t want them taking permanent residence. But never fear, Supreme Natural Health are here and we have the delicious and nutritious healthy alternatives of sweet potato and zucchini chips. Thinly slice these vegetables and place them on an oven tray with a light spray of oil, cover in some sea salt, fresh rosemary, pepper (and cayenne pepper if you want to spice it up) and cook on 200° until golden brown and crispy. This healthy alternative has definitely become a new family favourite and it’s one that won’t slow down your weight loss journey, rather be that single step closer to living a more healthier, balanced lifestyle.

Who doesn’t love a pepperoni pizza. We get it. Golden crust, cheesy goodness and pepperoni slices all rolled up in one mouthful. But who says this junk food needs to be just that.. ‘junk’ food. Pizza can actually be healthy food that promotes your new healthy lifestyle and way of living. How you may ask? Cauliflower crusted pizza is how. Not only is it delicious but it’s also incredibly easy to make. Start by preheating your oven to 200°. Then place a cauliflower head in a food processor and pulsing until reaching a crumb consistency. Place your cauliflower in a dish towel and drain excess water. Then place the cauliflower in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 5 minutes. In a bowl add your cauliflower, 2 eggs, italian herbs, salt and pepper and some light mozzarella cheese and combine. Spread your mixture out evenly across a lightly sprayed oven tray. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Then top with some low sodium tomato paste, light mozzarella cheese, red onion, spring onion and small cubes of fat free ham. Bake for a further 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted. Trust us.. you won’t be turning back to Domino’s next time you’re craving pizza after trying this healthy alternative.

Now for the king of all junk foods. Burgers. Hungry Jack’s, McDonald’s, KFC… the list goes on when it comes to the burgers we all know and love. But do our bodies love them? There is 250 calories in a quarter pounder from McDonald’s and this is before we take into account the quality of the ingredients. If produce can last years in a container looking the same… imagine what it’s doing to our bodies. But does this mean we need to cut a delicious meal out of our lives? No. Portobello burgers are pretty damn tasty, packed full of protein and are exactly the type of foods are bodies should be fuelled with. Take two large portobello mushrooms, cover in some salt and place them under the grill for 10-15 minutes. Remove from grill, press out moisture and place back into grill for a further 5 minutes. These protein packed vegetables are going to be a substitute for the bun of the burger. Your patty is a personal preference. We love making our patties out of lean, ground turkey mince and Italian seasoning. The fillings again are a personal choice but one you also need to watch. You want keep this meal a healthy one. We enjoy spinach, reduced fat feta, 2 thin slices of avocado and red onion with our patties. Now for the real game changer… the sauce. Your burger doesn’t need to be swimming in mayonnaise. One tablespoon of mayonnaise sits on 96 calories! Instead we mix original chobani greek yoghurt and a small amount of sriracha sauce. This creates a beautiful creamy and spicy sauce that leaves you incredibly satisfied. So build your portobello burger, take a deep breathe and get ready for your mind to be blown… you’ll begin to wonder why you hadn’t done this sooner. (This meal is also a great combo with the sweet potato chips we mentioned earlier)

At the end of the day we all have those foods that we crave at some time or another and although they are delicious for a few moments they are not nutritious or what our bodies deserve. Your body is the only one you’ve got so you want to fuel it with only the best foods. There are plenty of ways to substitute our junk food favourites for healthy alternatives. Try doing so whilst incorporating Supreme Natural Health’s Garcinia Supreme 3000. A product that will give you that slight helping hand due to its natural appetite suppressant.
